Musical Appeasement

All right sir, you didn't like the last song? I defy you to dislike my latest obsession, Cat Steven's "Sad Lisa." Make sure you wait for those melancholy strings. Just beautiful.

It doesn't annoy me in the background. If I consciously pay attention to it (i.e. it moves to the foreground), I even remark to myself that it's enjoyable, pleasant. But that's just it: even without wanting to, I go about my business and the music just sort of becomes a buzz in the background. It doesn't command my attention. It does grab me. It sure as hell isn't stuck in my head. I can't remember how it goes now, 10 minutes after it must have surely hit the 3:44 marker and ran out of gas.

But using that arbitrary scale of 1 to 10 I made up in the last post, of course this ranks high. This is not a B.S. piece. This is (even if it doesn't move me) real music. He's a real composer. He's not some kid trying to force an alphorn to become a violin because every other instrument's already been taken (bagpipes, mandolin, taiko, you name it and it's been done).

"It doesn't grab me," that should say. Sorry. Should have proofread before hitting submit.

The whole album's just spectacular. Not a bad song on it. Not a less than stellar song on it, actually.
