stumbling through life with one eye shut
I think the man wishes to be a martyr, which is both arrogant and psychologically broken of him. He's made his stand, but I fear for his and his family's and his students' safety. The university may have to fire him if they fear that someone will try to take his life while on campus or in the classroom lecturing. All I'll say is, if S. Rushdie could have sat down with "PZ" and talked him out of this I think he would have. I don't think anyone in Mr. Rushdie's position would wish this sort of fate on anybody. And PZ has stupidly forged that fate for himself. It won't be stupid if his stand is remembered by millions and exacts great change. It will have been stupid if he is forgotten by all save the handful (several thousand out of several billion) of readers he has.
I've been doing some heavy-duty spring cleaning both in the physical world and in the digital one, and while going through some miscellaneous text files I happened upon this. Pretty sure I've shared it with you before but it seems apt tonight:Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist -- he denies the Father and the Son.1 John 2:22
