duder
I'm insanely jealous of the creative team behind the webseries "duder." The writing is just as witty as Seinfeld or Curb Your Enthusiasm, but it is even more personally identifiable. Seriously, some of this dialogue could have been stolen from conversations I had with my friends in college. It's smart, a little ironic, and hilarious. Check it out.

The writing was far too sparse and slow here for me to get too excited -- it felt like a balance between Seinfeld and The Office. In fact, I'd say it was what you'd get if you took the writers for The Office and asked them to do their best job creating a Seinfeld plot.
I was also distracted constantly by the main guy (the one who winds up homeless for a night) because he looks so much like an actor or someone else familiar, so very very familiar, and I can't for the life of me tell who. Is he famous? Does he have a famous look-alike brother or cousin? I dunno, he just looks like someone who's as familiar to me as, say, Paul Giamatti or Christopher Lloyd. Can't explain why.
I'd be interested to know what parts of this video were taken out of the pages of your life at BU because nothing specific jumped out at me for my own life. No "Communist" parties. No candid discussions with my gay best friend about when he's going to lose his anal virginity. No nights spent homeless because of drunkenly losing my wallet. And definitely, definitely no caught babies.
I liked it. I wouldn't watch it regularly, but if it had been a college student film project I would have said "impressive A+." I'll be curious to see if the world agrees with me on that underestimate of duder's writing or if, like you, they think this is a comedy juggernaut prepared to go head-to-head and toe-to-toe with Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm.
I think my favorite scene was when the main guy was saying goodbye to the homeless family. On the one hand, it was very touching. On the other, it was comical how proud he was of himself (it seemed). It felt like a very J.D. moment from Scrubs.
But another contender for favorite scene would have to be the BDSM "Amistad" scene. lmao I loved how the quiet shy gay guy was unnerved by it, and it felt like a George Costanza moment where the gay guy felt uncomfortable being a white person whipping a black person but the black guy (though we didn't get to see it) would have been all, "What? It's because I'm black? If I was white you wouldn't have any problem with it, would you?"
I felt bad for the main guy dating the one girl because she was really pretty in her own uptown girl way but man what a bitch.
"candid discussions with my gay best friend about when he's going to lose his anal virginity"
This. All the time. lol. And the cell phone joke. And our adventures in Boston and NYC just gave off a similar vibe.
By the way, I don't know if your blog is completely shut down with no new posts, but I still can't access it. Also, since you're going all private, I'm not sure it makes a lot of sense to list it in my blogroll. Will there ever be some kind of public something or other I can replace it with?
The blog isn't private-access, it's zero access. I decided to take it down, and as luck would have it when I went to my iGoogle page to begin the search for tips on how I could export my blog's contents to my PC (prior to super-duper deletion!) I saw a letter in my Gmail inbox from ... OH MY GOD, THE FEDS! :O
Only semi-joking. Blog is down while I wait for word from Google. Blog will be deleted before the 1-week anniversary regardless b/c of legal counsel I've received from friends who know all about the legalese in this matter.
So go ahead and take me down. :(
But I hope to be back some day! :D
