Sherlock Holmes Hollywood-ized

Or should I say bastardized? I don't know about this. I certainly have my doubts.

They're gunning for the Romeo & Juliet (starring Leonardo di Caprio) crowd. People who have always heard the name "Sherlock Holmes" but have never been very interested in reading, certainly not in reading any century-old literature.

But yeah, this looks pretty god-awful. It's one of those films you'd honestly have to pay me to go see. I would not want to watch this for free. I wouldn't want it wasting space on my hard drive, on my bookshelf, or in my media player. I'd want those 2 hours of my life back very, very badly.

I left out an important 2nd line, no idea how. O_o; I was also going to say, "Not just Romeo & Juliet, but also the Wild Wild West crowd." Because that's what this film is: one-part Leonardo and Juliet, and one-part Wild Wild Retarded Action Flick With Tons of Dumb Jokes.

Who will go see this film? People who loved Transformers.

This film has a plus side: it reminded me of the excellent comedy "Without a Clue" starring Michael Caine and Ben Kingsley which supposes Sherlock was a bumbling fool and Dr Watson the real brains. And it's on youtube in its entirety!

I'd never seen that film before, so I watched it on your recommendation. I enjoyed it! It was a cute, fun family film and a fun tongue-in-cheek interpretation of the true story behind Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson.

But I didn't think it was something I'd want to re-watch any time in the next 10 years. It's one of those films that you enjoy, it's a good film, most definitely not a bad film, but you wouldn't want to sit through it again b/c so much of its value relied on (a) the shock value of the one-liners and (b) the shock value of the plot. Once you know the plot, and once you know what sarcastic things will come out of the characters' mouths, you're sorta set for a long time, you know? ^^;

More on my blog.

Having never seen or read any Sherlock stuff I'm going to be different and say that I'm interested in seeing this. I like Robert Downy Jr and I like Guy Ritchie...so why not?

I knew if I googled "Sherlock Holmes bastardization" that I'd find an intelligent, well-read individual. So Jay, let me just say, thanks for the vindication.

Hahaha, well thank you. That movie looks truly horrific, doesn't it?
