SCREW YOU, Microsoft!

Well, the seemingly inevitable nightmare of every Xbox360 owner has finally struck the Fuller household. We got RROD'd. That's right, our console is showing the "red rings of death." It's officially broken.

I guess this is the difference between Japanese engineering and the American design philosophy of "Get it out the door now and patch it later." Or maybe it's just shoddy work, plain and simple.

I don't know when or if this is going to get fixed. I rarely play the thing as it is, but I know I'm the only one who might make the effort to get it fixed. The bottom line is Microsoft has dealt itself another blow in a long list of consumer confidence failures.

Meanwhile, Apple seems to get more and more appealing...

And just when I was considering getting a newer 360 b/c of all the Jasper talk.

We had the RROD in August, went to the xbox website, filled in a form, got a shipping box two days later, shipped the xbox out, and got it back in two weeks (the guy at the UPS store recognized the white shipping box right away and knew it was an xbox - he said they had handled a couple of hundred of them). Pretty pain free, all things considered (one could argue it shouldn't have happened in the first place but considering we got the xbox two, maybe three years ago...). We got a PS3 in the mean time but haven't found alot of games we like for it. I tried playing Metal Solid Gear (or is it Solid Metal Gear :-) 4 but thought it kind of sucked. We do like the way the PS3 plays dvd's - both regular which it upstreams and blue-rays. When we got the xbox back, I finished the Half-Life 2 and Portal. Both were pretty cool.

btw - I seem to remember the Wii we got over Thanksgiving when you were here didn't work out of the box.

That's right! I almost forgot! Maybe I've bought too much into the anti-Microsoft sentiments that float around a lot of the websites I visit.

It's happened to my brother twice and it's been fairly painless to fix. Just a slight inconvenience of not having the system for a week or two.

Mine works fine right now!
