Monty Python's John Cleese on Sarah Palin

On the one hand, this seems almost too mean and sarcastic. On the other hand, it's got to be said that Palin is dangerously unqualified for the office she seeks.

You'd think everyone would have learned their lesson with the now universally disliked President Bush, who offered the same folksy charm, who was the guy you'd like to have a beer with, but lacked all qualifications to make him a competent leader. Both Palin and Bush are rich, inexperienced, gun-toting anti-intellectual conservative evangelical nationalists mired by abuse of power scandals who come from a right-wing tradition of screw-the-little-guy "Reaganomics" and free-market deregulation.

And yet in spite of Palin's uncanny resemblance to President Bush, her small-town, you-betcha charm is apparently strong enough to win over even my own mother, a registered democrat!

Something is rotten here and it stinks. Hopefully Obama's lead will keep expanding so I don't have to worry myself to sleep.

Palin's certainly not rich (at least not by Federal-politician standards): her family's AGI for 2007 was just over $165k. Compare this to Joe Biden's $319k, and he's not supporting any family (and that income is not partly from a spouse) -- and he's the second poorest man in the Senate.

She have a pretty bad racist/vindictive mean streak, though, and her incompetence can hardly be questioned.

Hm, I thought I caught a cnn report about a Palin mansion and private jet but maybe those are state owned. I haven't really researched the wealth of any of the candidates (isn't McCain something of a super rich sugar-daddy?) I'll strikethrough that particular adjective, though.

McCain isn't very rich on his own: $405k last year, and nearly a quarter of that donated to charity. His (third) wife is a millionaire though, the heiress of a large beer distributor with a net worth estimated at $100m.

I'm impressed that celebrities like Cleese who don't currently reside in America would be following our politics to the point of knowing about Sarah Palin. Think about it: do you know who the subordinate was for the man/woman who ran against Gordon Brown? Neither do I. Hell, (as shown,) I don't even know who ran against Gordon Brown.

This is going off a documentary I saw in 2006 or 2007 in which John Cleese talked about how it's a hard-knock life being a celebrity and how he's found a quiet cozy bungalow somewhere in a big English city where the locals don't stare, don't ask for signatures, etc. For all I know he has moved, but I don't think he has.

You know, I'm having second thoughts about the "nationalist" adjective as well. Bush's love affair with Texas has always been a little suspect. And Palin's connections to Alaskan secessionists are a little odd too. Certainly, the Republican party loves to fan the flames of blind, emotional nationalism, but individually, Bush and Palin may not be so fervent in their hearts.

"Both Palin and Bush are rich"

Why do you say that Palin is rich?

Of the four candidates running on the Republican and Democratic ticket, she makes the least amount. In addition, her total net worth is much less than Barack Hussein Obama's.

I think I pretty much addressed this mistaken use of "rich" in my above comments. Apologies to Sarah Louise Heath Palin.
